Barossa Bushgardens National Tree Day Planting
We are aiming to expand our Red Gum Circle to include a small-scale meadow with a mix of native grasses, daisies and other herbaceous ground dwelling plants as well as adding a few trees and shrubs. This particular garden represents a selection of plants, typically found on a red gum floodplain. It has been landscaped so the centre of the circle is inundated with water in larger rain events. Grasses are very important. A healthy grassy understory can include up to 150 different species of plants and is home to an abundance of insects, lizards and other small animals that are in turn food for larger predator species like our local Peregrine Falcons and Wedge-tailed Eagles, just to name a few.
