City of Melville National Tree Day: Point Waylen

This National Tree Day event forms part of the City of Melville’s ongoing Point Waylen foreshore restoration program. The project aims to improve the health of the Swan River foreshore by planting native trees, shrubs and groundcovers that are locally appropriate to the area. The planting will help to: Improve habitat for local birds and wildlife Strengthen riverbank stability and reduce erosion Enhance shade, biodiversity and the overall resilience of the foreshore Support long-term environmental health of the Swan River Volunteers will be helping to plant native species and contribute directly to the restoration of this important riverside park for the community to enjoy now and into the future.

DIRECTIONS

The planting site is located within Point Waylen Reserve, along the Swan River foreshore in Attadale. Access the reserve from Burke Drive opposite Stoneham Road, Attadale. Once parked, walk toward the river, the planting area will be clearly signed and is located on the river-facing foreshore slopes and open grassed areas near the Point Waylen lookout, within easy walking distance of the path. City of Melville staff and volunteers will be on site to direct participants on arrival. Look for National Tree Day signage and the City of Melville tent as your meeting point.

VOLUNTEER INFORMATION

This event will proceed rain, hail or shine, so please dress for the weather and be prepared to get a little wet and/or muddy. All required personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided on the day, however you are welcome to bring your own gloves, sturdy footwear, or wet-weather gear if preferred. If you’re unable to participate in planting activities, you are still very welcome to attend. The day is also a great opportunity to meet like-minded community members, chat with City staff, and learn more about why the City of Melville is undertaking these important foreshore restoration works.
