National Tree Day - Eltham Lower Park

Pop on your old clothes, dust off the gardening gloves and get ready to get your hands dirty! Nillumbik Shire Council is inviting everyone of all ages to participate in our annual National Tree Day event. This event will take place on Sunday 26 July from 10am to 1pm and this year we are aiming to plant 700 indigenous plants at Eltham Lower Park and inviting all participants to a BBQ afterwards to show our appreciation. The tree planting is part of an ongoing revegetation project to strengthen the habitat corridor along the Diamond Creek, focusing on providing butterfly habitat for a number of species including the Eltham Copper butterfly that is found adjacent to the park in Hohnes Hill reserve and also the locally significant Imperial Hairstreak. The project is committed to improving the quality of the Diamond Creek for the vulnerable platypus and a range of other mammals, fish and bird species. We're calling on all residents to roll up their sleeves and join us in this important work. Every indigenous species planted is a step towards a greener, healthier future for our community. Participants of all ages are welcome, and no prior experience is necessary.
